Collection: Musical Instruments
Music is an important part of Southern culture. In Salem, North Carolina, music was intrgal to Moravian worship and daily life. Salem had its own orchestra by the 1780s and brass bands played regularly as part of religious services and to announce births and deaths in the community. Old Salem Museums & Gardens collection of musical instruments and related materials reflects the important role played by music in the community. Other objects in the collection reflect musical craftsmanship elsewhere in the American South.
