Description
One of four sheets of paper, each with two imprints on each side, so arranged to allow four cut-outs on each sheet, of round watchpaper advertisements as follows: “Watches Repaired on the Shortest Notice.” and “Pescud, Printer.” on perimeter, with “John Winckler, / Silver-Smith & Jeweller, / Mecklenburg, / Virginia.” in center.
These paper labels would be placed inside of watchcases made or repaired by Winckler. Whenever the watch owner opened the case to wind the watch the paper would serve as a reminder of who serviced it last.
History
These unused watchpapers descended in the family from the silversmith John Winckler, Jr. (1775-1854) to his great-grandson E.P. Winckler, of Mecklenburg County, VA. MESDA’s Desk and Bookcase (2543) also followed the same path of descent in the Winckler family.
