History
This Sampler was worked by Mary Calloway White in Jamestown (Prince Edward County) Va. It is dated November 22, 1834. Mary White probably produced this sampler while attending the girls school in Prince Edward County of which her father, Mr. William White (1776-1842) was the head master. The school was opened in 1817, in the charge of Mrs. Mary R. Cowardin, and was the first girl’s school in the county.
