Description
DESCRIPTION: slender alkaline-glazed stoneware jar with flat rim and incised decoration. Nearly opaque, deep brown alkaline glaze with slight irridescence. On one face, the figure of a man, possibly Native American, is incised into the clay. He is depicted over a rectangular form, possibly intended to represent a block house. The opposite face is incised with a bust-length image of a male figure with facial hair.

Isaac H. Craven is known to have used a special deposit of iron-rich sand in his alkaline glaze, which may account for the deep brown of this vessel.
