Subjects
Colonel William Rhett 1666-1723 __The subject was born in London on September 4, 1666 and came to South Carolina in 1694 with his wife and child. In 1690, he married his wife, Sarah Cook, who survived him and went on to marry Chief Justice Nicholas Trott. Colonel William Rhett began his career as a merchant and sea captain. Once in South Carolina, he represented Berkeley and Craven Counties in several assemblies, served as a Colonel in the South Carolina militia as well as serving as a vice admiral in 1718. The list goes on. He and his wife had several children. He died January 12, 1722.
