Description
three-quarter length portrait of a young man with a light colored curled wig, wearing a dark jacket, long waistcoat, and white shirt with ruffled cuffs. His left hand is tucked in his waistcoat, his right hand rests on two books on top of a carved chest; a sword hangs at his left side.

Subjects
Philip Ludwell I __(1638-1705) another suggested death date is 1716 – Son of Thomas Ludwell ( -1657) of Discoe, Bruton, Somerset, England and his wife Jane Cottington. He came to Williamsburg, Virginia in 1660; married Lucy Higginson, his first wife.
