DESCRIPTION: White candlewick spread; cotton twill ground; no backing; central motif of symmetrical floral design surrounded by oval with inscription, then surrounded by swags, then by floral vine interspersed with four baskets of flowers. Fringe with tassles and balls on three sides.
History:
DATE: With the date of 1793, the bedspread is one of the earliest known southern bedspreads with candlewicking.

HISTORY: This bedspread descended in the Wright and Warren families of eastern, North Carolina.

Artist: Mary (Polly) Armistead born in Bertie County, North Carolina, on July 13, 1777. She was married on June 27, 1795 to David Wright (1775 – 1813).
