Description:
MAKER: Jane Connelly Spencer was born on August 12, 1794 in Burke County, North Carolina. She was the second wife of John Kincaid (1784-1867) who she married on August 30, 1823. The initials “J S” are stitched on the top of the coverlet, indicating that this was made prior to her marriage.

DESCRIPTION: White on white embroidered bedcovering. Ground made of two panels stitched together. Designs consist of a central basket of flowers with vines and flowers used in a border motif. Original net edging.

History:
The coverlet came to the donor in 1929 from her aunt, Miss Mattie Johnson, granddaughter of the maker. It came to MESDA in 1975.
