Description:
MAKER: Amanda Helen Irvine (1834-1916) was born in Mercer County, Kentucky to James Brewster Irvine (1802-1889) and Lucretia Starnes Irvine (1810-1867). On November 2, 1854, she married John Jackson McGee (1816-1864), a farmer, hotel-keeper, and slave owner of Mercer County, Kentucky. Three years after his death in 1864, she married Henry C. Willis (1831-1911).

DESCRIPTION: Applique quilt with twenty stylized tulip clusters surrounded by a leaf and vine border. Quilted in one corner is the inscription “A H Irvine”. Quilted on each side are the initials “WKW” and “WBW”.

History:
The quilt was purchased by the donor at an estate auction on the McGee family farm in Mercer County.
