MAKER: Made by Sarah Johanna Brumley (1848-1892) and most likely her mother Alpha Rebecca Roberts Brumley (1826-1859) of Greene County, Tennessee. Sarah married William Milbern Kelsey (1846-1893) in 1870. Sarah lived her entire life in Greene County, and is buried in the Timberidge Presbyterian Church cemetery. The quilt was passed down in the family.

DESCRIPTION: Cotton applique quilt; six pieced white squares measuring 33″x33″ with large floral appliques in center of square consisting of central flower surrounded by four small buds. The central flower has a blue circle center with a red ring, yellowy ring and another red ring; four stems with two leafs on each project from each corner topped with a flower of pink and red fabric. The whole is surrounded on two sides by a 7 1/2″ border with a applique of green zig-zag pattern with the same bud as in the center projects from each point in the zig-zag. The back consists of three narrow panels, the edging on front and back is a 1/4″ strip of green fabric.

This quilt was passed down through the family.
