Description:
MAKER: Martha Darnall Boyd Meacham (1809-1843) made this quilt for her niece and namesake Martha Jane Robertson (1831-1912). Martha Boyd was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina to Thomas “Colonel” Boyd (1777-1856) and Susannah Darnall Boyd (1777-1845). She married Samuel Louis Meacham in Charlotte, North Carolina in February of 1833. By January of 1834 she and Samuel were living in Madison County, Tennessee where she gave birth to her first child, Samuel Banks Meacham.

DESCRIPTION: Chintz applique quilt with three concentric square featuring appliques forming a center wreath enclosing a quilted fylfot and the inscription: “A present to Martha Jane Robertson by Martha Meacham, Oct. 12 1834.”
