Descriptiop: Pewter plate.

MARK: Struck twick on reverse with an intaglio cartouche of a spread with eagle with a shield and olive branches and arrows in its talons above which reads “L. Peed & Co” and below “WASH[unreadable] NC”

MAKER: A pewterer by the name of Peed working in Washington, Beaufort Co., North Carolina, has not yet been identified in the historic documents but there were several families with that surname living in the area during the nineteenth century. The mark featuring his name and location struck on this pewter plate is all that is known of L. Peed at this time.
