Description:
Much of the surviving stoneware produced in Edgefield in this period was decorated with clay slip which was brushed or trailed onto the dried ware before it was fired. Undecorated utilitarian ware of this region is rare, and this plate is the only known plate without decoration.

DESCRIPTION: Alkaline glazed stoneware plate which is grey-green- brown in color, with darker brown rings of glaze at well and half-way up bouge. The plate is glazed on the face and edge only, and has a low bouge profile.
