Description:
Alkaline glazed stoneware jug, over fired. Ovoid shape, neck with collar, glass decoration at origin and terminus of handle. Inscribed around the waist, “DAVID HARTZOG HIS MAKE.”

MAKER: David Hartzog (1808-1883), along with Daniel Seagle (1805-1867), was one of the earliest alkaline-glaze stoneware potters in the Catawba River Valley.
