Description:
Lead glazed earthenware crock with dark brown surface, lead and iron glaze.

MAKER: Philip Spigel was born in Botetourt County, Virginia, in November1828 and died in February of 1886. He apprenticed under Jesse Henkel (1796-after 1860), married Susan Fluke in 1858, and is listed as a potter in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 censuses.

History:
Along with the jar inscribed by Jesse Henkel, this crock descended in the Philip Spigle family.
