Bowl

Place Made:
Lambeth Great Britain
Date Made:
1680-1700
Medium:
earthenware
Dimensions:
HOA: 7 1/8; DIA: 12
Accession Number:
1089.1
Description:
Delftware bowl, with deep shape; decorated with blue small floral and dot design rimmed at top with a border of triangles. The interior has a slight decoration of small diaper designs.

The high angular shape of this bowl, which is associated with seventeenth-century design, is very English, not Dutch. Although this shape is associated with ware from Bristol, the pink cast suggests the Lambeth potteries. The decoration was influenced by Chinese porcelain.
