DESCRIPTION: A pewter bowl with a 3/8″ lip made using mold Acc. M-269. The mold in which this bowl was made t is one of the molds referenced in the the minutes of the annual report of the Wachovia Historical Society in 1911 which contains the following note: “We have within the last few days secured a sett [sic] of moulds for making pewter plates, formerly used by Mr. John Phillip Reich, together with the lathe he used for polishing the plates, and also a couple of mortars or crucubles, etc. and two moulds for casting spoons. Although the Reich shop used these molds in the second quarter of the nineteenth century, stylisticially, the plates coming out of the molds appear to be from the late eighteenth century. The Reichs may have obtained the mold second hand.
