MESDA Match

MESDA Match is an online giving challenge set by the MESDA Advisory Board to raise $40,000 in support of all aspects of MESDA’s mission to research, conserve, acquire, and exhibit important southern decorative arts and material culture.

MESDA Match will span the four weeks of the 2017 MESDA Summer Institute, June 21—July 14.

Follow the campaign via Facebook or Instagram to learn why MESDA matters!  During the week of June 25 you can even follow along with the 2017 Summer Institute class in real time as they explore the Great Wagon Road! Simply look out for updates on MESDA’s Facebook page and Instagram account, or search using #MESDAmatch!

How does it work?
You can make a contribution for MESDA Match online by clicking the give button above, filling out the online giving form, and making a safe and secure donation using your credit or debit card.  But don’t forget that this is an online campaign!  Help us to reach our goal by spreading the word through your social network.  You will even have the option to let us give you a social shout-out by including your Facebook name and/or Instagram handle in a post.  But don’t worry, we will not publicize the amount you give, just the fact that you support MESDA!

What is the goal?
The goal for MESDA Match is to raise $40,000 by July 14th, 2017.  This challenge was set by the MESDA Advisory Board.  Who is that?  The MESDA Advisory Board is comprised of a group of dedicated individuals with varying backgrounds from across the nation who counsel, support, and guide MESDA.   This year the members of the MESDA Advisory Board have donated $40,000 dollars to the support the museum; they are challenging all supporters of MESDA to match their level of giving!

 

When is MESDA Match?
MESDA Match will take place June 19th – July 14th, 2017, during the four weeks of the annual MESDA Summer Institute program.  The Summer Institute is a graduate-level practice-based program taught in collaboration with the University of Virginia that provides students, professionals, and independent scholars with the opportunity to explore southern history and material culture.

Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes!  Donations for MESDA Match are 100% tax deductible.  When you make a gift for MESDA Match, your donation is collected by Old Salem Museums & Gardens, MESDA’s parent organization, and directed to support MESDA’s mission.  Old Salem Museums & Gardens is a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are deductible to the full extent provided by law.

 

What if I already make an annual gift to MESDA through my membership in Friends of MESDA or the Frank L. Horton Society?
First, THANK YOU for your annual gift through MESDA’s membership program!  If your membership in Friends of MESDA or the Frank L. Horton Society is due to renew between June 19th – July 14th, you will have an opportunity to make an additional gift for MESDA Match.  All gifts made for MESDA Match are fully tax-deductible, while not all gifts of membership are fully tax-deductible.  Learn more about the many benefits of membership in Friends of MESDA and the Frank L. What are the minimum and maximum donation amounts?
The minimum online donation amount is $20 and there is no maximum donation!  All gifts made for MESDA Match are non-refundable.

 

Are there any fees associated with donations given through MESDA Match?
There are no fees assessed to the donors for their contributions.  100% of your donation goes to support MESDA’s mission.

 

Can I give by cash or check instead of online?
Yes!  If you prefer to make your gift by cash, please be sure to include a note designating the gift for MESDA Match.  This will ensure that your donation is recognized properly and reflected in the total MESDA Match goal.
If you prefer to make your gift by check, make the check out to MESDA and please be sure to include the designation of MESDA Match in the memo line of the check.  This will ensure that your donation is recognized properly and reflected in the total MESDA Match goal.

Can I make my gift to MESDA Match anonymously?
Yes.  Donors will have the option to remain anonymous when completing the online giving form.

 

Can I make my gift to MESDA Match in honor/memory of someone?
Yes.  Donors will have the option to make those choices when completing the online giving form.

 

Can I make my donation using my phone?
Yes!  If you have web capability on your smart phone, simply click here to give.

 

Will I receive a receipt for my contribution?
Yes.  A formal gift acknowledgement from the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts at Old Salem Museums & Gardens will be sent to the email or mailing address listed at the time the gift is made.

How will I be recognized as a donor?
Donors will receive a gift acknowledgement letter from the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts at Old Salem Museums & Gardens.  Additionally, all donors will be recognized in Old Salem Museums & Gardens’ Annual Report.  Donors who wish to remain anonymous will receive a gift acknowledgement and will be listed anonymously in Old Salem Museums & Gardens’ Annual Report.

 

What will the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts at Old Salem Museums & Gardens do with my personal information?
Donors participating in MESDA Match will receive thank you and tax acknowledgement letters.  Donors may also receive standard emails from MESDA with information on donor events or the use of gift vehicles to support MESDA.  Donors can opt-out of the emails at any time.  Donor information is NEVER given or sold to third parties.
