When Peter Manigault and his friends wanted to relax and enjoy themselves they drank. About 1760 George Roupell recorded this scene around the table at Manigault’s plantation outside of Charleston. Open bottles of wine litter the table. A bowl filled with punch sits ready with a silver ladle.
