Asa Blanchard moved from Dumfries, Virginia, to Lexington, Kentucky, in 1808.  Over the next thirty years he was one of the commonwealth’s most prolific silversmiths.  He is probably best known for his beakers.  Today, called “julep cups,” they are a defining Kentucky silver form.
