Asa Blanchard had established himself as a silversmith in Lexington, Kentucky by 1807, advertising in the Kentucky Gazette and General Advertiser that he had worked previously in "the best shops in Philadelphia and New York, to make himself master of his business."  Blanchard advertised that he produced a wide variety of silver forms, and throughout his long successful career his customers were among Kentucky's most elite residents.
