DRESSING OR WRITING TABLE
1785-1805
Bath County, KY
Cherry with cherry secondary wood.
HOA: 28-3/4", LOA: 34", DOA: 26"
Gift of Mr. Clifton Anderson (acc. 5390)
The configured drawer to this otherwise plain cherry table reveals its original function as a dressing or writing table. The drawer’s interior was originally subdivided into eight compartments of different sizes. The Marlborough-style legs are chamfered on the inside and beaded down the exterior edge. Those features, combined with the presence of large hand-wrought nails, suggest an early date of manufacture. The table descended in the Owings and Brennan families of present-day Bath County, Kentucky.
