Tours and Tickets

The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts at Old Salem offeres a variety of tours and ticket packages to meet the  interests of our visitors.

Tickets can be purchased at The Frank L. Horton Museum Center.  Tickets are also available at the Old Salem Visitor Center.  In addition to cash, Old Salem Museums & Gardens accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards. 

Reservations for tours, which do sell out, can be made in advance by calling 336-779-6140 during regular museum hours.

45-Minute MESDA Tours: Southernisms: People and Places

A 45-minute tour of twelve galleries that tell the story of the early South through the objects made by its diverse craftsmen from the first English footsteps at Jamestown to the first canon fired at Fort Sumter.

This tour is offered every hour on the hour Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Two-Hour MESDA Expanded Tour

A two-hour, in-depth tour that includes all the Southernisms: People and Places galleries plus more than a dozen more with specific focuses on regionalism, craftsmen, and craftsmanship.  This tour examines an even broader range of MESDA’s outstanding collection of early Southern furniture, ceramics, silver, paintings, textiles, and other decorative arts.

This tour is offered Fridays and Saturdays at 1:30 p.m. or with an advance appointment during regular museum hours by calling 336-779-6140 at least one week in advance.

One-Hour MESDA Private Study Tour

A private, one-hour, focused tour of MESDA’s unparalleled collection of early Southern decorative arts.  These tours are custom tailored to meet your specific interests.

This tour is offered by advance appointment during regular museum hours by calling 336-779-6140 at least one week in advance.

Two-Stop Ticket:

For our visitors who are short on time, the Two-Stop ticket allows entrance to any two sites at Old Salem.  For example, you could tour MESDA and visit the Single Brothers House, the Tavern, or any other Old Salem exhibit building.
