MESDA Speaks: Colonial Williamsburg Antiques Forum

Three members of MESDA's staff will speak at the 61st annual Colonial Williamsburg Antiques Forum. The Forum - considered one of the most important scholarly gatherings in decorative arts and Material Culture - will be held February 1 - 5, 2009. Johanna Brown, Director of Collections and Curator of Moravian Decorative Arts will deliver the Chipstone Foundation lecture at the Forum. Her lecture "Such a Scene of Industry ... in so Small a Place" will focus on the decorative arts of Salem, North Carolina, and other Moravian communities worldwide. Johanna's groundbreaking research on the Moravian ceramic traditions of North Carolina will be featured in a dedicated issue of the journal Ceramics in America (2009) focusing on North Carolina Piedmont ceramics.
As part of the Forum's special programming options, Robert Leath, Vice President of Collections and Research and Chief Curator, and Sally Gant, Director of Education will lead a group of forum attendees on a two day tour of Southside Virginia.
